Your Point of Focus Is Your Greatest Asset (And You're Likely Using It Wrong)

When the big picture feels impossible, appreciating the tiny evidence is what shifts everything.

When you've got a big, lofty goal, it's easy to get discouraged when you're looking at the big picture.

Sometimes it can feel like you're not making any progress and that you'll never achieve your goal.

That's where one of my favourite activities comes into play that helps you shift your focus.

Appreciating the little bits of evidence that things are actually moving.

In all likelihood, regardless of how off track you feel, you're making progress in some area.

And the idea of focusing on that tiny evidence is what helps you shift from "this is impossible" to "this could actually happen."

And the more time you spend in the feeling of it being possible, the more you'll move closer to your goal or see the opportunities necessary to achieve your goal.

A lack mindset in disguise

To help drive this idea home, I want to share about a time when my focus was on the fact that my business wasn't generating enough income.

I was hyper-focused on my lack of sales because of a big income goal that I wasn't even appreciating the money that was coming in through other avenues.

So to adjust my point of focus, I started writing down all the ways in which money was coming to me.

The practice

Each night, I sat down, and still do, and write down on a monthly calendar the money I have received that day.

This includes my day job, dog sitting, and any other way money makes its way to me (discounts, someone paying for my coffee, etc.).

If I haven't received money that day, I put a love heart and write my current monthly total at the bottom to show my appreciation for what I've received so far.

What shifted

The craziest thing happened after I did this for a few months.

I realised that even though I wasn't earning what I'd hoped for from my business, I was still having my highest income months ever, even compared to when I worked full-time.

I have continued to do this and keep my monthly totals for each year together so I can easily appreciate all the money I have received.

In 2025, I ended up having my highest income year ever.

When my point of focus changed from "my business isn't earning enough" to "there is nearly constant money coming to me from many avenues," I went from feeling discouraged and in a lack mindset to feeling blessed and in an abundant mindset.

And honestly, that's what changed everything.

Because your point of focus is one of your greatest assets, and you're probably using it more than you realise. It just might not be helping you.
