Get Unfunked With Me: Day Four

How practising the feelings I want first is shifting my energy, content and income before the goals have even arrived.

There's been a lot of plates spinning in my world recently, which makes focusing on unfunking my vibe all the more poignant.

Along with what I've shared so far, I've been playing a little experiment with one particular area of my life.

The most important area of all

And that is probably the most important area of all: how I feel.

I've been playing around with the concept of focusing on how I want to feel first on any subject, and then focusing on what naturally brings about more of that feeling within me.

It started with answering the unfunking questions I shared in the last post.

Then it led to creating a lovely visual poster I spent a Sunday afternoon making, with the feelings I want to experience written all over it:

Spaciousness. Ease. Playfulness. Fun. Aliveness. Savouring.

That then became the wallpaper on my phone.

And eventually, all of this led to me setting reminders on my watch to stop every two hours-ish and tap into those feelings for one to two minutes—or longer if I feel like it.

Obviously, I'm not planning on doing this forever. The intention was to try it for one to two weeks and make returning to those feelings more familiar and natural.

It's only been about a week, and I've already noticed a huge difference in the way I'm carrying myself through my days and, ultimately, the way I'm experiencing my life.

Fine-tuning, not fixing

Now, before I go on, I want to say that, as a baseline, I'm naturally a very optimistic, bubbly and happy person. Generally speaking, I spend most of my days feeling pretty content and easily satisfied.

But as I've mentioned previously, I've had a few areas I've been feeling a little funky in.

For me, this hasn't been about going from miserable to joyful. It's been more of a fine-tuning of my focus—feeling more into what I want instead of continually observing what I don't.

And I think that's important because sometimes the better-feeling place you're reaching for might simply be relief.

It doesn't have to be joy straight away.

Anyway, back to what's actually been going on for me.

Energy

First, I'm feeling less tired—or, at least, I feel like I have more energy.

When I notice that tired feeling now, I'm less annoyed about how busy my life feels and more focused on the anticipation I have for more spaciousness in my life.

And when I do that, I can actually feel some of that spaciousness opening up now.

Somehow, that gives me a completely different kind of energy.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still tired—especially with everything I have going on at my office job—but I have this feeling of eagerness and aliveness that was missing inside me for a while.

Content

Another area where I've noticed a big shift is my content.

I'm more relaxed, more inspired and I genuinely feel good about what I'm creating and sharing.

Ideas are flowing to me frequently, and I genuinely love what I'm putting out there—even though I still seem to be losing followers. 😂

My content is starting to get a little traction, but more importantly, I'm no longer constantly looking for everything I'm doing wrong.

Instead, I'm eager and open to the idea that it's all working out, even if it's not obvious to me yet.

And honestly, that feeling of enjoyment, fun, playfulness and trust is the most important part.

So I'm leaning hard into that and celebrating the evidence—even if it's tiny—that I'm making progress.

Money

And lastly, money.

I've been averaging around $5,000 a month between my job and other gigs, and while I'm incredibly appreciative of that, I'd started to feel a little stuck there.

So I decided that I wanted $8,000 a month to become my new minimum.

Rather than just focusing on the number, though, I've been focusing on how having that income would feel and what my life would look like.

This has become one of the main things I sit with every time that reminder goes off on my watch.

And what's funny is that the feelings I associate with having that extra $3,000 a month are the exact same feelings I've been practising throughout this whole experiment:

Spaciousness. Ease. Aliveness. Freedom. Choice.

I've been feeling into those things to the point where $8,000 a month has started to feel normal to me.

It's even influenced actual decisions I've made—like choosing to take a day off from my gardening job without worrying about the money I wouldn't earn that day.

Then something wild happened

And then something kind of wild happened.

Before the month had even ended, I realised that with the money I already know I have coming in, I'm currently set to earn $8,080 this month.

My biggest income month this year.

Actually, my biggest income month ever.

And weirdly, that isn't even the most exciting part anymore.

Because the biggest shift has been realising that I don't need the number to arrive first and then experience what I think it's going to give me.

I'm practising those feelings now.

And that's changing the way I'm experiencing my life before I've even reached the bigger goals I'm working towards.

Last year was my biggest income year to date, and at the beginning of this year I set myself the goal of pretty much doubling it.

At almost eight months into the year, logically, I'm nowhere near that number.

And that was making me feel funky as fuck.

But now?

I feel so different about it.

Even if I get nowhere near that goal by the end of 2026, I won't see December 31 as proof that it isn't going to happen.

The desire doesn't suddenly disappear because I didn't achieve it within an arbitrary timeline.

I'm going to keep practising the feelings I thought reaching that goal would give me and let myself experience as much of them now as I can.

Because that shift in how I feel?

That's everything.

And it's sort of the whole fucking point of this unfunking process.
