Get Unfunked With Me: Day Three
The six-part daily practice I use to anchor myself in the feelings I actually want to carry through my day.
One of the biggest shifts I've been wanting to make during this unfunking process is getting crystal clear and focused on what it is I actually want.
A big part of that has meant looking at what I don't want—or, in this case, looking at what's bothering me and making me feel funky.
As I shared in Day Two's unfunking post, I've pinpointed four main areas I'm a little hung up on. From there, I've been able to flip the coin and figure out what it is I do want, but more importantly, how I want to feel.
But that alone wasn't enough.
I needed something that could help anchor me in those feelings daily.
So I've developed a practice of sorts that I do in the mornings—or really, at any point during the day when I feel like I need it.
I'm calling it my Daily Unfunking Practice.
It comprises six parts, which you can write about in a journal, think through in your head, or even say out loud.
1. Today I want to experience...
The first is simply finishing the sentence:
Today I want to experience...
For this, I have a few feeling words I've chosen as my main themes:
Spaciousness. Ease. Playfulness. Fun. Aliveness. Savouring.
Yours can be absolutely anything that feels good to you, so go with your gut.
2. What would the version of me who already has what she desires do today?
The second is answering—or simply imagining the answer to—the question:
What would the version of me who already has what she desires do today?
Really, this is a form of acting as if, but what I find particularly helpful is imagining this version of myself and really feeling into how she feels.
Once I'm in the feels, I find it much easier to answer what she would do today or how she would approach a certain situation.
3. Wouldn't it be cool if...
This next one is quite possibly my favourite.
List three to five things that it would be really fucking cool if they happened.
For example:
Wouldn't it be cool if today's post found the exact person who needed it?
Or:
Wouldn't it be cool if I made $5,000 this month from sales in my business?
Again, it can be anything, as big or as little as you want.
I like to play with it like a game and let myself stretch what feels possible.
4. I wonder...
Next, I get curious by finishing the sentence:
I wonder...
Some examples are:
I wonder how life will surprise and delight me today?
I wonder what inspiration I'll receive today?
I wonder what gets to feel wonderfully alive today?
Again, there's no right or wrong here. It's simply whatever feels good.
5. Today I'd love to notice evidence that...
Then it's time to ask for evidence by writing, thinking or saying:
Today I'd love to notice evidence that...
And then filling in whatever areas I'm currently working on or unfunking.
A few of mine are:
My life is supporting me.
My business is unfolding.
Inspiration is everywhere.
My desires are already on their way to me.
These can change every day, or you can spend some time thinking about the main things you'd love to see evidence of and focus your attention on one or all of them.
6. Today's nudge is...
Last but not least:
Today's nudge is...
This is simply one little nudge in the direction I want to go.
Maybe it's to slow down.
Maybe it's to have more fun.
Maybe it's to laugh a little more.
Whatever it is, I want it to feel easy, fun and good.
The full practice
So, to summarise, my Daily Unfunking Practice looks like this:
1. I want to experience... — Choose how you want to feel.
2. What would the version of me who already has what I desire do today? — Imagine her. Feel into her. What would she do?
3. Wouldn't it be cool if... — Come up with three things.
4. I wonder... — Choose one curiosity.
5. Today I'd love to notice evidence that... — Decide what you'd love life to show you.
6. Today's nudge is... — Choose one little nudge that feels good.
That's it.
I've actually got most of mine pre-written now, so my practice isn't necessarily to sit down and come up with six brand-new answers every morning.
Instead, I spend around five to ten minutes reading through them, sitting with each one and really feeling and reflecting on what it means for me.
And man, do I carry myself differently throughout the day when I do.
So give it a try and see what you think.
