You Can't Fuck It Up

Why the idea of a 'right way' is a load of bullshit — and what becomes possible when you realise there's no such thing as failure.

This is possibly one of the most freeing concepts to grasp, and one that I still grapple with occasionally:

You actually can't fuck it up.

No matter what you're working towards, dreaming about, or focused on, you cannot fuck it up.

I know you've likely been taught that there's a right way and a wrong way to do whatever it is you're working on.

Honestly, that's a load of bullshit.

Not only are there countless ways to achieve anything, but it actually matters more how you feel as you move and progress than the specific method you're using.

If you're doing something a certain way because you read it in a book or saw someone else do it that way, but you're hating every second of it, that's more important feedback than any result could ever show you.

You get to do it in a way that works for you and feels good to you.

And that's the first key thing to understand.

Because if there are countless ways to do something, and it matters more how you feel than the method itself, then you really can't fuck it up.

You can always adjust

You can change direction.

You can follow your inspiration.

And none of that is any shade of failure.

Another way to look at it is this:

No matter what perceived failure you experience, there is always something to learn from it.

Just because something didn't work the first time doesn't mean it won't work the second or third.

But even if it doesn't, the effort isn't wasted.

No doubt you've learned something valuable from the time and energy you invested.

Maybe it's a skill you developed.

Maybe it's something you learned about yourself.

Maybe it's the inspiration for an entirely different idea.

It all counts.

And if you choose to look at everything as an experience to learn from, then once again… you can't fuck it up.

You can always reconnect

And probably the most alignment-coded part of all of this is remembering that you can always reconnect.

If you find yourself feeling disconnected from yourself or out of alignment, you haven't failed.

You haven't ruined anything.

And you certainly haven't fucked it up.

It's completely normal to get out of whack sometimes.

It's not a sign that you're doing life badly.

It's simply an invitation to reconnect.

Because you can always choose again.

You can shift your focus.

You can adjust your perspective.

You can change your energy.

And honestly, getting yourself back into a better feeling place can actually become really fun.

The more you practice returning to yourself, the quicker and easier it becomes.

Because that, in itself, is a skill.

So if…

- There is no one right way. - How you feel matters more than the method. - You can always pivot, adjust or change direction. - Every experience contains lessons and observations. - And you can always reconnect with yourself again…

Then there really is no failure.

And if there's no failure… you can't fuck it up. Ever.
